This is the speech I did in Chicago at Dr. Bill Winstons Joseph School of Business.  The event also featured speakers such as TD Jakes, Derek Luke, and many others.

Earlier I have been getting all sorts of alerts on my name from Google for black history mentions.  One in particular came up that caught my eye as a special honor was being named part of NBC’s TheGrio.com’s 100 Black History Makers in the Making.  They even did a cool profile on me.

This list comprises of current history makers, versus the traditional past ones that have helped forged the history of the country.  I encourage all my readers to check out the list and their contributions by visiting theGrio.com

This should be an interesting black history season especially considering the blackness within the White House :).

Seven Pounds was the first movie we decided to see.  It was at 12:01 AM at night!  Man trying to still stay young I guess.  Nonetheless I had to KNOW what Seven Pounds was about because the trailer wasn't giving any clues.  I guess that was the point to make you wonder, and boy was I wondering.  The movie itself is one that you need to be fully AWAKE, and CONSCIOUS to see as it is DEEP from every possible angle of life.  This movie will cause you to re-evaluate your life, your relationships, and your purpose here on the planet.  When I say this movie will mess with you, I mean you will want to do some self psychiatric re-evaluation when you leave.  Everyone I have sent to it so far, has said the same thing.  It's a must see for the Christmas movie season. 

Next we had the opportunity to see Jim Carey's "YES MAN", and it seems like God was trying to tell me something with all these movies about life, and living.  Even though this movie is supposed to be a comedy, it has a very deep meaning underneath and will definitely touch a cord.  I would say this one is a sleeper, but after seeing "Seven Pounds" and walking right into "Yes Man", I now feel like conquering the world.  I wish I could go more into detail, but I don't want to be a *SPOILER* for everyone who hasn't seen the two movies yet.

What you will learn from each is the value of the things we value the least sometimes, as well a new perspective of what it really means to live. I also think in times like these, we all need to re-evaluate what's really important.  Yes, we are in an economic recession, battling two wars, facing threats from terror, escalating crime, deteriorating school systems, along with the moral decay of society but that has been happening since the beginning of time so what's new?

At the end of the day, how will your life impact others, what difference or solution will you provide to the world?  Do you live your life to the fullest, or are you living it as if you get a second and third shot at it?  Have you imprisioned your dreams with bars of FEAR? 

This week over the Holidays ENJOY your family, forget the petty stuff going on around, and value the time you have.  As many of us have painfully learned over the last few years, they may not be there next year.  Parent's if the kids wanna build a snowman GO OUT THERE and make one with them!  My kids still talk about last years snow man and they are only 3 & 4.  What sometimes seems trivial or small means the most to our little ones.  Something as simple as Christmas tree with ornaments means the world, even though after 20+ years of those things it's old to me.  However, to see their eyes light up, and to have them SOOOOOOO excited what brand new to me, and something I will value forever. 

Well I guess my point is on this Blog post, is that maybe we should really consider what the Holidays are about and the feeble pleas of commercial retailers to get us to buy.  The real sales are after the Holidays anyway.  The only thing that never goes on sale is precious memories, experiences, and time.  It seems those things are precious, and priceless so we better enjoy them before quanities run out.

All I have to say is it was well worth the flight and trip.  It was a well needed vacation with just myself and the wifey.  We stayed at the Excellence Punta Cana which is a 5 star resort on the island.  If you ever plan a vacation to the DR I would recommend staying there.

One thing I do caution is husbands DO NOT TAKE YOUR WIFE !!!  Not because the women are so beautiful (and yes they are), but because the men are even more beautiful! It takes a lot for me to say that, but I give credit where credit is due.  Everyone looks good out there, so before you go STEP YOUR GAME UP!  The weather was great everyday, cool ocean breeze, clouds, stars (you miss that stuff in NYC), heck I was happy to see a mosquito, that's how tranquil this place makes you!

This place was decked out from roof all the way down.  Equipped with 8+ restaurants, 10 bars, and NO KIDS as it is couples only, it was worth every penny. One of the best investments made this year, and that says a lot in this economy and my clients are still clearing 10%+.

However, all great things come to an end and now I am back in the US with a fresh perspective on life.  I enjoyed myself so much I want to do it again, and again, and some more.  So I am immediately searching for more staff to take on more duties so I can spend more time focusing on the "core" activities that generate the greatest result.  I guess that would be great news since we are hiring when everyone else is laying off, and I am sure the pool is full of qualified talent in this part of the world.

I will upload some photos of our trip later in the week once I download them to the computer, and upload to the site. 

Now that I am back in the saddle, let's see if we can cut one more million dollar deal before the end of the 2008!

My strategy was to sneak out during a period of chaos, which "Thanksgiving" week would be perfect.  Everyone in finance is gone anyway, and for the most part most of the US is focused on the holiday week.  I also needed somewhere far from the temptations of work, phones, or emails.  I have been known to work whenever or however.  It's a disease!  It also must have weather that is WARM, real warm because NYC is cold real COLD! 

So here is what I came up with ….

• Ephren Taylor is checking out of the civilized world until December 2, 2008
• Right now the temperature at my target destination is 85-91 degrees Fahrenheit
• My cell phone isn't going with me
• There is a five star "BRAND NEW RESORT" ocean view suite calling me right now
• One beautiful island, with beautiful people, where Ephren will be able to relax in peace
• No traffic, no subway, no cell phones, no email !!
• I'm taking one SMALL bag, airport security can holla at me later!
• Most family, and staff have no clue where I am going …

For those of you wondering where I will be, I would tell you, but someone would try and track me down and ask a question and I can't take that chance (YES, SOMEONE WOULD!!!).  I will tell you all about it when I get back…

This week had a series of doctors visits and here's what I ended up with by Friday before Noon….

At 26 years old, despite some great feats accomplished, I am coming face to face with the reality of ones Health and that I won't be young forever …

• When I visited the optometrist found out my vision is getting worst, and what I used to be able to see, I can't see anymore without assistance.  Also my blood vessels are enlarged in my eyes and that could be a problem later on …
• Had X rays in the middle of the week …. then had them examined
• I have an early onset of Arthritis in my spine
• Spinal compression and degeneration in C1-C2 vertebrae
• One vertebrae is compressed into my shoulders almost disappearing
• Nerve compression within my spinal cord
• One leg is 1/4 inch off from the other causing nervous system damage, not to mention my shoes wear out funny on my heels
• The list goes on and on and on ….

Now, looks like I have to go into real "REHAB" for my spinal cord ….

I'm too young for this type of medical drama ….

Mentally I am still soaking it all in and to top it off I find out right before my vacation …
